Fisketorvet Shopping Center has its name from the city’s original fish market, which was located exactly where the centre is today, from 1953 to 1999. For over 40 years fish traders and fishmongers would meet in the early hours to look at the catch of the day and make a good deal.
The architects behind the amazing architecture of Fisketorvet Shopping Center is Kieler Architects, and behind the construction is Skanska Øresund. The centre is owned by Unibail-Rodamco, who owns a large number of shopping centres in Europe.

The centre is built as a giant ship with a fantastic view of the Copenhagen harbour front. The different levels of the centre are therefore referred to as decks. There are two principal squares in the centre. One is called Pyramiden (the Pyramid) named after the fantastic glass pyramid in the middle of the square where the daylight comes in all year round.
In this area you will find a number of restaurants and coffee shops.
The other square is called Udsigten and is the principal restaurant area of the centre. Here you will find the large restaurants.
Fisketorvet Shopping Center has a gross area of 57.000 m2 in total. 34.000 m2 is used for shops, 3.000 m2 for restaurants and 5.600 m2 for storage. The cinema CinemaxX is a little over 10.000 m2.
In September 2006 the new bridge for cyclists and pedestrians by the name of Bryggebroen opened. Fisketorvet has helped finance the bridge. The bridge creates a direct route from Islands Brygge and Amager to Fisketorvet and Vesterbro.
